Active Citizenship in partnership with Servant Leader presents Youth Speak Leaders Session 4.
In July, as we celebrate Mandela’s birthday, we are reminded of leaders who mobilised South Africans and the world in the fight for a just and free South Africa.
Trevor Manuel and Theresa Solomon are known for their roles in successfully mobilising under the umbrella of the United Democratic Front.
Join us as #firsttimevoters remind us of the role they played, what we can learn from them and what kind of leaders and mobilisation strategies we need today, as we navigate the devastating impact of the Covid-19 third wave pandemic. We also unpack what the youth believe we should be doing, as we give back on Mandela Day.

ABOUT OUR PANELISTS
Neo Gumede
BA In Theatre & Performance at University of Cape Town
"Whilst I work towards being a trained performer I hope to contribute to a progressive sense of leadership pioneered by compassionate free-thinkers."
Lidian Plaatjies
BA In Theatre & Performance at University of Cape Town
"I aspire to continue the work of my parents; to make South Africa a better and safer place for all through all art forms."
Georgina Walther
University of Cape Town
" I enjoy having conversations and debates concerning political, societal, environmental and economic factors and how they impact different people in different ways. I feel it is important to listen and learn from other people with differing backgrounds and experiences. I believe this creates a more holistic understanding of these issues and spheres of life to allow us a more intersectional approach to addressing them."
Deborah-keir Paulsen
Theatre & Performance UCT
"I love socializing, entertaining and engaging with those around me. I enjoy the art of telling stories; raw truths, unrealistic wishes and just being a voice to the voiceless."
Lusanda Ngcobo
Theatre & Performance UCT
"I hope to consistently contribute to a progressive sense of leadership in South Africa through discussion and education. I believe our ability to make tangible change lies within our youth. "
